A Community Effort Worth Celebrating

Today, Wednesday 8th October 2025, we had the privilege of attending a very special community event just around the corner from The Tolpuddle Café.

Hillside Clubhouse, in partnership with Caxton House Community Centre and The Friends of Caledonian Park, proudly presented the unveiling of the Avenue Garden Community Herb Bed Mosaic — a symbol of creativity, collaboration, and shared pride.

Unveiling Ceremony with Local Leaders

he celebration kicked off at 1pm in Avenue Garden, and was graced by two very special guests: Islington Mayor Jason Jackson and Member of Parliament Jeremy Corbyn.

Both gave heartfelt speeches about the power of local initiatives and the beauty of building something together. The mosaic was then officially revealed as they pulled away the red cover to the applause of Caledonian Park neighbours and volunteers.

What the Mosaic Represents

This stunning mosaic isn’t just a decorative feature – it represents the hard work of local residents, the healing power of nature, and the creative spirit of our neighbourhood. Hand-built and community-led, the project shows what’s possible when people come together.

Tolpuddle Café – Proud to Be Part of the Community

We at The Tolpuddle Café were delighted to see so many familiar faces enjoying the event – and even more thrilled to welcome many of you back to the café afterwards. Whether it was a celebratory coffee, a slice of cake, or a comforting toastie, we were here for you – as always.

Being part of such a meaningful day reaffirms why we love what we do: serving not just food and drink, but also the wonderful people of Islington
